WAKEFIELD – Independence Day will be celebrated with family, friends, food, music and games at Old Mountain Field next week - an event not to be missed according to South Kingstown Director of Leisure Services Terry Murphy.

Fireworks will go off shortly after dark, but some residents get to the field as early as 7 a.m. to claim their sports for the show. The festivities will officially begin at 5:30 p.m. with food concession stands and children’s bouncy houses, according to Murphy.

The band, “Take It to the Bridge,” will be entertaining crowds from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

“Anyone from the area can tell you that they have some incredible talent and energy,” Murphy said. “The lead singer, Colby Geaber, is home grown, right here in South Kingstown, so they’ve got a huge local fan base.”

“I don’t think you’ll see a better display, to paraphrase Frances Scott Key, of “rockets’ red glare and bombs bursting in air”  anywhere in the state,” she added.

No alcohol or personal fireworks, sparklers included, will be allowed in the park.
