Al Southwick

The Big Blue Bus, a staple in North Kingstown, was driven by recreation director Al Southwick to transport children throughout town to various events. The bus was on display for guests to hang signs, walk through and honor Southwick's legendary place in town.

NORTH KINGSTOWN – Hundreds gathered at the North Kingstown Town Beach for a celebration of recreation director Al Southwick, a local legend and icon, who passed away last month at the age of 73.

Southwick, who received many awards throughout his life, was an instrumental figure in the department for nearly 50 years.

And on Monday, residents, family members and colleagues all gathered around the North Kingstown Bandstand and community center to commemorate Southwick’s outsized life and history with the town.
