A local veteran of the news industry was awarded last weekend with a New England Emmy for his work in community and public service.

David Zapatka, a longtime national network cameraman, received the award on Saturday for producing “Ripple Effect,” a series of drunk driving commercials made for the Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT).
