CHARLESTOWN – For over 40 years, Arrowhead Dental Associates has provided the South County area with comprehensive dental care from its Charlestown location. With a varied team of doctors, specialists, hygienists and dental assistants, the practice provides a wide range of dental services – from root canals to cosmetic dentistry.

Started by Dr. Bruce Gouin in 1978, Arrowhead Dental has grown into one of the best dental care facilities in the state. Along with being a member of the American Dental Association, the Rhode Island Dental Association (RIDA), the South County Dental Society, the Academy of General Dentistry and the International College of Dentists, Gouin was voted a top dentist in Rhode Island by Rhode Island Monthly Magazine and Arrowhead Dental received the 2016 Humanitarian of the Year Award from RIDA. The Charlestown dentistry currently enjoys a 5-star rating on Google, the highest review rating possible, after over 450 reviews by users.

According to Arrowhead’s website, “all of the dental services you may need or want” are available at its Charlestown location. The dentistry’s services include routine check-ups, cleanings, fillings, crowns, bridges, extractions, implants, laser dentistry, cosmetic dentistry, dentures and more. Further, the Charlestown business treats patients both young and old, offering pediatric accommodation for its younger patients.

“The team at Arrowhead took the time to make me feel comfortable before starting their work, and they communicated their process well,” said Kara Kilmartin in a Google review written earlier this month. “I know they did a great job because my tooth feels better than it did when I went in. Thanks for caring about your patients. I left my previous dentist because I had no confidence in them, and I highly recommend your office to anyone looking.”

“Caring staff that caters to keeping me comfortable, latest equipment/technology to get the best results,” reads another recent Google review by Elizabeth Cornell. “Music or TV as requested during session. No judgement on the state of my mouth, just help to make it better. Warm lemon towel at the finish is a nice refreshing touch. Love this place.”

But the appreciation goes both ways. Committed to serving its community, Arrowhead Dental has annually for the past 10 years offered a day of free dental service for area residents in need. The event is dubbed “Dentistry from the Heart” and has, to date, provided over 1,100 patients with over $700,000 in free dental work.

“During Dentistry From The Heart, the atmosphere is electric,” said Gouin. “Our entire team enters the day on such a positive note that you can feel it in the air all around the practice. With such a large group of individuals volunteering their time, there must be a strong sense of teamwork for the event to go as planned. This has always been something that this team does very well through communication, hard-work and a sense of pride in helping the community.”

The project began in 2008, when Gouin was researching the logistics of hosting a free day of dental care for those who otherwise might not be able to afford such work. His search brought him to the Dentistry from the Heart organization, which hosts free dental care days throughout the country, and a strong relationship between the Charlestown dentistry and Florida-based non-profit was born as the two entities sought to expand the public service. The organization’s goal is to inspire dentistries across the U.S. to embrace a day of free dental care in the name of Dentistry from the Heart. 10 years ago, the Charlestown dentistry would become the first practice in the state to host such an event.
