SOUTH KINGSTOWN–A small but strong group on URI's campus is working to solidify the tenuous link between students and their natural environment. This week URI's Student Action for Sustainability is hosting an art contest with a theme entitled "Forests in the Fall." Heather Lewis, a biology major, and the current president of the five-year old group said, "We are hoping to raise awareness about the URI North Woods and why it is important to this university."
Students passing by their peers' submissions–poetry, oil painting, pastels, photography–voted on their favorite pieces while SAS distributed information about their commitment to preserving the local forest. Three awards, donated by Rhody Joe's and Albie's, were given to winners.
