SOUTH KINGSTOWN - Elizabeth Czernicki was a South Kingstown resident first.
Now, she is the co-founder and treasurer of the Marine Semper Fi Fund, a certified public accountant, a business owner, a military wife and the mayor of Occaquan, Virginia, where she now lives.
From South Kingstown High School, Czernicki attended Colby College in Maine where she met her husband, Lt. Erik Quist, who served three tours of duty in the Middle East after 9/11. Since his deployment, he has risen to the rank of Major.
During Quist’s first and second tours of duty, Czernicki earned certification as a public accountant and co-founded the Marine Semper Fi Fund, a non-profit organization run by four Marine wives that provides financial assistance to the families of injured Marines coming home from war. Unfortunately, on his last tour in Afganistan, Quist was critically injured by an IED and had to become the recipient of such funds as the Marine Semper Fi Fund.
After nearly a year in the hospital and undergoing more than 12 surgeries, Quist is making a quick recovery and hopes to pass his physical fitness test so he can remain in the Marines.
