SOUTH KINGSTOWN – A Superior Court judge ruled last week to allow a South Kingstown woman to return to her Indian Lake home following a lengthy family dispute.
Based on a July 1 decision by Washington County Superior Court Judge Kristin Rodgers to overturn the earlier orders of the South Kingstown Probate Court, Joyce Willner, 88, will be allowed to return to Indian Lake.
“We’re all very delighted with the decision,” H. Jefferson Melish, attorney for Joyce’s son, Michael Willner, said of the decision by phone Tuesday. “Joyce has fought so hard to return to Indian Lake we’re just delighted that she’s going to be having that opportunity.”
Joyce, a Holocaust survivor, was married to her husband, Kurt Willner, in Israel in 1948. In 1957, the two immigrated to the United States with their two children, Michael and Yaffa. In the 1960s, the two purchased a summer home at 21 Tomahawk Trail in South Kingstown, ultimately moving to the property full-time in the 1980s.
