EAST GREENWICH — Tuesday night was the annual financial town meeting, where residents come out to hear both the town and school committee budgets for fiscal year 2015. It’s a way for taxpayers to see exactly where their hard-earned money is going. However, this year only 35 residents showed up, which meant no quorum. Having no quorum means, by default, the five warrant articles would pass.
Before it was announced how many registered voters were in attendance, the evening began with a brief summary of the two budgets. The approved school budget for fiscal year 2015 is $35,613,334 an increase of $931,283 (2.7 percent) over fiscal year 2014. Increases are attributed to salaries ($318,320), benefits ($270,270) and non-personnel ($342,693).
