The first of three fundraising events for the Sierra Stanton Book Award will take place on Wednesday, March 19 from 5 to 9 p.m. at the Courthouse Center for the Arts, 3481 Kingstown Road, Kingston. The funds raised will help assist Native American seniors in the Talent Development Program at URI.
The event will include a raffle with signed collectible sports memorabilia and amazing photography donated by artists from all over Rhode Island, a silent auction and door prizes drawn every hour. Raffle tickets will cost $1 each or $5 for 6. Drawings for the silent auction and raffle will begin at 8:15 p.m. In addition, native crafts and creative artistic work will be on display. Alberta Wilcox, Tribal Elder will be demonstrating finger weaving early in the evening. Thupten Tendhar, University of Rhode Island Teacher of Peace and Nonviolence and author, will give a Blessing of Peace. There will be finger foods and a cash bar available.
Other fundraising events as part of the Sierra Stanton Book Award will take place during April. A dinner fundraising event at Celestial Cafe will be held on April 6 and a powwow at the University of Rhode Island will be held on April 26.
