NARRAGANSETT - In December, the Narragansett Housing Authority [NHA] received a disturbing letter from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development [HUD] stating that the board and the executive director were unsatisfactory in several aspects, kicking off a long struggle to remove the “troubled” status from its shoulders.
At the housing authority meeting on Tuesday, Richard Longolucco from Coastal Housing Corporation met with the board to discuss ways to alleviate its troubled status with HUD, which must be done by June 30 of this year.
“Overall I will say that it’s unfortunate when you read this stuff,” said Longolucco. “There’s a disconnect. When you read this, it looks like things are horrible at Narragansett Housing Authority. I don’t see it that way."
Longolucco continued to say that the issues that were brought forth by HUD look worse than they really are because they compounded several issues and did not take in to account which issues had already been taken care of.
