NARRAGANSETT – The Narragansett Town Council voted 3-2 Monday to reject the request from the South County Jewish Collaborative and the South County Tourism Council to change the zoning of the property located at 375 Kingstown Road from residential to limited business.
The council also rejected a request to amend the town’s future land use map of the comprehensive plan.
The decision came following a public hearing, which was continued from the Nov. 18 council meeting when a 2-2 vote seemed imminent and the council decided to wait to vote until Monday’s meeting when Councilor Glenna Hagopian would be present and could serve as the deciding vote.
On Nov. 13, the planning board voted 3-2 to approve the requested zoning change of the 6.1-acre property from residential to commercial with six stipulations.
The stipulations included that the site be limited to a single development parcel with no further subdivision of land except for division of land for conservation or open space, that there be no expansion of the building footprint, and that the site be limited to office use.
The South County Tourism Council (SCTC) agreed to all of the stipulations.
