WOOD RIVER JUNCTION — At its Tuesday night meeting, the Chariho School Committee gave formal recognition to its building committee for its achievements in managing numerous complex building projects and for bringing them in under budget and ahead of schedule.
Among others, the committee’s tasks included renovating and upgrading the high school’s infrastructure as well as building an addition on the middle school.
Chariho School Committee member George Kenney chaired the building committee and said the first meeting took place on July 1, 2008 after voters allocated $20.5 million for the project.
He said he was proud that after five years of projects, the building committee was more than $1 million under budget.
“The money stays where it is – it’s available in case the district needs money for modernization,” he said.
Kenney said that construction had to be done in a certain order so that school could remain in session with a minimum of disruptions.
