SOUTH KINGSTOWN – A ground breaking for the proposed Wakefield comfort station may take place sometime this month.
Andrew Nota, South Kingstown’s director of administrative services, said Wednesday that the Rhode Island Department of Transportation is in the final stages of singing a contract with New England Building and Bridge Co., Inc., for the $1.1 million project.
The project was open for bidding Aug. 8 and RIDOT, which is managing the project, received four bids. New England Building and Bridge was the lowest bidder.
Nota said RIDOT previously anticipated holding a ground breaking in the spring or fall, but there is a possibility that a ground breaking could occur within the next several weeks, depending on the weather.
