WEST WARWICK— The Cecil Group gave a presentation last night to the town council regarding the future redevelopment agency and its plan; this plan will begin the process of rehabilitating the once bustling Arctic Village.
Town Manager Fred Presley explained to the council that The Cecil Group has been working with a committee within town to collect data, the current town conditions, market studies and a traffic analysis to put the plan together.
The whole purpose of the agency, Presley said, would be to “accomplish the public and private redevelopment of vacant and underutilized land and buildings.”
He said the agency would be responsible for developing and applying a design for the village center and creating guidelines that support the historic development site.
Arctic Village, he said, has assets such as the bike path and Pawtuxet River that many people may not see from Main Street.
With the help of the agency, these assets can be utilized and developed to bring new people to town.
“I brought in three developers into town and they said they’d develop here if we put parcels together for them,” he said. “It’s centrally located, the traffic is non-stop, so they feel the opportunity is there.”
