WOOD RIVER JUNCTION — “Necessity of Two Principals for Hopkinton Elementary Schools,” was the agenda's red flag that resulted in over 75 parents and supporters to crowd into the Chariho School Committee meeting on Tuesday night.
In its last meeting, the committee approved the transfer of Steven Morrone, Ashaway School's former principal, to Chariho Middle School. That evening, the committee also discussed the possibility of sharing one principal between Hopkinton's two elementary schools as a strategy to lower district costs.
Even though many parents appeared to be ready to protest against sharing a principal between Ashaway School and Hope Valley School, the meeting's atmosphere changed quickly when the committee decided that Ashaway needed its own principal.
