WOOD RIVER JUNCTION — Due to an unexpected vacancy, Ashaway Elementary School Principal Steven Morrone is slated to become the next assistant principal of Chariho Middle School.
Superintendent of Chariho Schools Barry Ricci floated the idea of changing Morrone’s position before the school committee on Tuesday night.
“As previously noted, Kristen Danusis has resigned her position as assistant principal at the middle school and I was ready to conduct a search committee to find a replacement. When, lo and behold, Steve Morrone walked into my office and asked if I might consider moving him to the middle school,” Ricci said.
“As I always do, I took a step back and thought about it and I think it’s a great idea. Principal Morrone has done an exceptional job at the Ashaway School and he’s certainly ready to take on a new challenge and is interested in secondary education,” he said. “So, I wholeheartedly support his request for a move to the assistant principal position at the middle school.”
Ricci said that a search would need to be conducted for a replacement for the principal at Ashaway Elementary.
Committee member Robert Cardozo said he supported Morrone’s move to the middle school as assistant principal.
“I think he is an excellent choice and will do a wonderful job,” he said.
