COVENTRY—With his sixth book scheduled to come out on Monday, a local, well-known author continues to focus on the history of the multiple villages throughout the Pawtuxet Valley area.
Raymond Wolf, of Hope, author of “The Lost Villages of Scituate,” “The Scituate Reservoir,” “West Warwick,” “Foster” and “Pawtuxet Valley Villages” has written his newest book “Coventry.”
Like with all his books, Wolf spends about a year researching, collecting images, documents and putting the book together before it’s released to the public.
Although he did not have many donations of photographs for his first few books, Wolf said as they became popular, the historical information given to him by locals was immense.
“I had 11 people volunteer their collections to me for this new book,” he said. “It was a very good response for Coventry. The Greene Library was very helpful; one of the girls loaned me some postcards.”
He said he also received many photographs and documents from the Coventry Historical Society, the Western Rhode Island Civic and Historical Society and the Pawtuxet Valley Preservation and Historical Society.
“As the older folks pass away the photographs and the items they’ve collected seem to disappear so it’s important to preserve these artifacts,” he said.
The flow of his new book begins at Anthony Village and touches on every village in town all the way down to the small village of Rice City.
