RICHMOND – The Richmond Town Council voted unanimously to appoint Keven Miller to the Chariho Regional School District Committee Tuesday night to fill the vacancy left by the resignation of former chair Michelle Cole.
Cole resigned from the school committee last month citing her family’s schedule as the reason for her resignation.
Miller was appointed for the remainder of Cole’s term, which ends November 2016, at which time Miller could run for re-election if he so chooses.
Robert A. Petit also applied for the school committee appointment but later withdrew his application, Town Clerk Tracy A. Nelson said.
The council briefly interviewed Miller, who has previously been before the council to discuss school-related issues, asking why he was interested in the position.
Miller said he has been a Richmond resident since 2004 and has come to like the community “very much.”
“I’ve become invested in it even more since I’ve started raising my family here,” he said. “I want to keep my family here. I’d like to stay here another 10 or 20 years. I’d like to see Richmond continue to prosper.”
