Annual East Greenwich Art Festival to commence on Saturday at New England Tech
Unique creations, both miniature and life-sized, will be on full display this weekend in East Greenwich.
Over 140 artisans will converge onto the campus of the New England Institute of Technology just off of South County Trail this Saturday and Sunday for the Third Annual Festival Fete East Greenwich Art Festival.
The two-day Art Festival, which will begin at 10 a.m. and run until 5 p.m. each day this Labor Day weekend, will feature items big and small including jewelry, ceramics, paintings, sculpture, fiber and home accessories from area artisans who are deeply entrenched in the culture of American arts and crafts.
“Every show has its own flavor and there’s definitely a great variety with this show,” says Jennifer Neuguth, the owner of Festival Fete, which puts on five different art shows throughout the state each year. “It’s not your everyday art festival.”
Neuguth adds that the Art Festival will be a “juried” show and it will feature a great variety of work from the very contemporary to art that is somewhat more “urban style.” She said there will be a woman at the festival who takes old sweaters and remakes them into new apparel, such as dresses and a new kind of sweater.
Neuguth also states there will be an artist who takes old boards and paints contemporary images of various super heroes, like Superman, as well as jewelers who takes old findings and turns them into new contemporary images.
According to the Festival Fete website, visitors will have an opportunity to join together to create a community art project, spend time with the family in the Free children’s craft center or play parachute games with Trevor the Game Man.
