WEST WARWICK – Post Two's American Legion playoff run ended just six hours after it started.
After dropping the opening game in their best-of-three series with No. 9 Gershkoff-Auburn Post 20, No. 8 West Warwick scored the opening run in the second half of the doubleheader but wound up dropping a 7-4 decision to lose the series 2-0.
“We played probably our two crispest games defensively in a long time,” West Warwick coach John Parente said. “We got good innings out of both of our starting pithcers. We played two errorless games and we showed a lot of mental toughenss.
“We faced some adversity right from the beginning of the game. We faced distractions and we faced it the best we could.”
Coventry graduate Justin Jadach held Gershkoff to just four runs through the first six innings, but Post Two trailed 4-2 until the top of the six when Coventry's Cote Nichols hit a two-run single up the middle to even the score.
Everything fell apart for Jadach and Post Two in the seventh. Jadach allowed a couple of runners to get on base and Parente brought in East Greenwich lefty Jake Moss. Moss gave up a single to right field and then a sacrifice fly to make the score 6-4.
Cranston loaded the bases again and Moss walked in a run to finish off the scoring.
"We showed something today," Parente said.
