EAST GREENWICH — With unanimous approval from all five members, the East Greenwich Town Council appointed Police Chief Thomas Coyle as the interim town manager Monday evening during the Council’s regular meeting at Town Hall.
Coyle will temporarily fill the seat that was vacated by William Sequino, Jr., who began his new position of Executive Director of the Rhode Island Clean Water Finance Agency earlier this week after serving a quarter century as East Greenwich’s town manager.
Town Council President Michael Isaacs said Coyle contacted the Council directly about offering to serve as an interim manager while Town officials go through the process of finding Sequino’s permanent successor. The Council also found Coyle to be a good fit for now considering he knows all of the top-level employees in East Greenwich, ensuring the transition of a new manager will be a smooth one.
“We found him to be during his tenure [as chief] that he’s not only an excellent police chief, but also as a good administrator,” Isaacs said of Coyle. “He knows the staff. He’s knows this town. He knows the department heads.”
