SOUTH KINGSTOWN - Dean C. Philbrick, 48, of South Kingstown, is scheduled to be sentenced in Washington County Superior Court today at 2 p.m. for the Feb. 15, 2012 death of 23-year-old Erica Knowles.
Philbrick is charged with one count of driving under the influence - death resulting and one count of driving to endanger - death resulting. A Washington County Grand Jury indicted Philbrick on the charges in May 2012.
Knowles, 23, of 95 Wood Lane, South Kingstown, died after the vehicle Philbrick was driving struck a tree on Torrey Road in the early morning hours of Feb. 15.
According to the Grand Jury’s interim report, Philbrick ‘caused the death of the 23-year-old back seat passenger when he lost control of the vehicle, crossed into the opposite lane of travel and struck a telephone pole and a tree,’ and ‘It is further alleged that Philbrick operated the motor vehicle recklessly, causing the death of the passenger.’
South Kingstown Police completed the accident reconstruction investigation in the days following the accident, and came to the conclusion that alcohol played a role in the accident and Knowles’ subsequent death.
