NORTH KINGSTOWN – A North Kingstown man was indicted by a Washington County Grand Jury Friday on four counts of first degree child molestation and 11 counts of second degree child molestation.
Robert Eaton, 61, of 50 Yorktown Road, is accused of molesting three children, all under the age of 14, in incidents that allegedly occurred during an 18-year timeframe.
Eaton was arrested on June 26 by the North Kingstown Police Department after his girlfriend’s niece told police he had repeatedly abused her over a five-year period that began in the summer of 1998, when she was 12, and ended in 2003 when she was still a minor.
In her statement, the victim said she spent many weekend nights at Eaton’s home and that the first instance of inappropriateness occurred during an overnight visit in which he reportedly told her he had a dream about her “being
MOLESTATION, from 1
Lady Godiva,” and said he would want to marry her “if she were older.”
During a future visit — after the victim’s aunt, identified as Maureen Sousa, reportedly insisted that she sleep in Eaton’s room on the floor in a navy-blue sleeping bag — Eaton allegedly touched the victim’s breasts after she fell asleep and went back to bed where he proceeded to masturbate.
This reportedly began a series of escalating incidents in which Eaton increased his advances with the child.
The victim came forward after she and her sister recently discussed the conduct of Eaton while at a tattoo shop in Providence and discovered both had allegedly been victimized by the man.
The indictment also charges that before the above-mentioned incident, Eaton molested two other children – the first between 1994 and 1996 and the second from 1995 to 1998. All three molestations took place in North Kingstown and were investigated by the NK Police Department.
Eaton is currently being held without bail at the ACI and is scheduled to be arraigned in Washington County Superior Court on Monday.
