PROVIDENCE - A former Chariho High School assistant soccer coach has been indicted by a federal grand jury on charges of receipt, possession and distribution of child pornography, the Dept. of Justice announced Wednesday.
Glenn Matteson, 52, of Richmond, was originally arrested by Richmond police on Feb. 22, 2012 on one count of indecent solicitation of a child and possession of child pornography. A subsequent investigation of Matteson's home at 15 Riverview Drive, Alton, in conjunction with an agent from Homeland Security Investigations and the Rhode Island State Police Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force revealed hundreds of images determined to be child pornography.
Federal prosecutor for Rhode Island Peter F. Neronha sought the additional charges based on the evidence produced form the search. Matteson still faces the state charges of indecent solicitation and possession of child pornography brought by the Richmond Police.
Matteson appeared in federal court on Wednesday and was released on an unsecured bond. He remains free on bail pending further proceedings in state court. If convicted in federal court, he could face up to 60 years in prison, with a minimum mandatory sentence of five years in federal prison followed by a lifetime of supervised release.
