Jim Baron wasn't the only one released from his contract Sunday; long-time assistant Pat Clarke and first-year assistant Larry Harris were also let go.
Assistant coach and former URI player Preston Murphy remains on staff, but AD Thorr Bjorn said Murphy - who recruited most of this season's talented freshman class and was instrumental in getting Jordan Hare to verbally commit to the school last October - wasn't guaranteed to stay on once a new coach is hired. When asked if Murphy would be a candidate for the job if he had more experience, Bjorn said yes and "He's got to continue to learn and grow in this business. I think he knows where he's at and he's excited about the opportunity to continue with a new coach if given that opportunity."
Director of Basketball Operations Dan Szramowski also remains on staff, but is in the same boat as Murphy as far as next season goes.
"What I've promised Preston and Dan in their willingness to do this is I will not dictate who a coach is going to hire," Bjorn said. "I will say both of them will absolutely get an interview with my highest recommendation."
