Yes, the Superdome that had been torn up is gleaming again, conventions and celebrations have returned, and the good times are rolling again in New Orleans 6½ years after Hurricane Katrina nearly destroyed the city.
But there's a lot more to the story, as Mike McDevitt discovered over the holidays.
McDevitt, a junior at Providence College and the son of Kevin and Nancy McDevitt of East Greenwich, was among 14 PC students who spent a week of winter break volunteering on the campus ministry's annual NOLA Immersion trip, which helps New Orleans residents deal with the remaining damage from the historic storm and lingering needs that still plague the city.
For more on the story, read all about it in the Feb. 16 edition of The East Greenwich Pendulum.
