WOOD RIVER JUNCTION - During the upcoming weeks, the Chariho Regional School District Committee will hold several public budget workshops leading up to the approval and adoption of the district’s next annual budget.
The first of these workshops will be held in the Chariho Middle School Library on Saturday, Jan. 7, at 9 a.m.
According to Chariho Supt. Barry Ricci, he will present the committee with his recommended budget at that meeting, whereupon the committee will deliberate and make any changes they feel necessary in the weeks to follow.
The meetings are open to the public, and will be held in a quasi-informal, workshop format, as opposed to having a specific meeting-style agenda.
“The school committee encourages the public to participate,” said Ricci. “After all, the schools belong to the public.”
After Saturday, the committee will hold three more public workshops held on the last three Thursdays of January (12, 19 and 26). These workshops will be held at 6 p.m., in the middle school library.
Once all four workshops are completed, the committee will vote to approve a new budget at a regular meeting scheduled for Feb. 14, at 7 p.m., in the Chariho High School Library.
On March 6, there will be a public hearing on the budget at committee meeting in the Middle School Auditorium at 7 p.m. The official adoption of the budget will take place the following week at the committee meeting in the high school library.
A budget referendum is scheduled for April 10.
