EAST GREENWICH — It’s not about discipline. It’s about common sense and representing the East Greenwich Fire District.
That was the message Board of Fire Commissioners Chairman Douglas Axelsen and Deputy Chief Russell McGillivray hope to send with the district’s new Code of Ethics, composed by McGillivray as part of the district’s Standard Operating Guide that governs firefighters’ behavior. The new code was adopted unanimously by the board last Thursday.
The code, they said, covers issues such as off-duty behavior and social media policies, and how to handle policy violations they witness.
