WOOD RIVER JUNCTION - The Chariho School Committee is back at full strength.
The Richmond Town Council has appointed Robert. L. Cardozo, a former member of the Chariho Finance Committee, to sit in Richmond’s third seat on the school committee, completing the committee’s 11-member contingent.
The seat was left vacant by former School Committee Member Terri Serra, who resigned in November because of charges from Richmond and Charlestown police related to an October car crash that left four Chariho boys injured.
Cardozo got his first taste of action at the Dec. 12 school committee meeting.
“Obviously, we always want to have full representation on the council,” said Chariho Supt. Barry Ricci, “so it’s good to be back to 11 members.”
Cardozo requested his appointment at the Dec. 6 Richmond Town Council meeting. According to Town Council President Joe Reddish, there was supposed to be one other applicant, former School Committee member Robert Petit, but Petit withdrew his name from consideration.
“Either one would have been a great candidate,” Reddish said, “but it was easier to not have to pick from two good eggs.”
