How do you talk to your state legislator?
Hint: it's not as hard as you think, and doesn't involve hiring a lawyer or knowing a guy who knows a guy.
Just ask state Sen. Dawson Hodgson (D-Dist. 35, North Kingstown, East Greenwich), who recently picked up his cell phone to greet a constituent.
“After I told him who I was, he hesitated, and asked me if the senator was there, like I was a staff member who answered his phone. We don’t have our own staff,” he said last Wednesday at a United Way of Rhode Island Young Leaders forum at the Statehouse in Providence.
