Whaley won’t seek town council re-election

March 5, 2014

SOUTH KINGSTOWN - Town Council President Ella Whaley told the Narragansett Times Monday night that she will not be running for re-election this year.

Whaley, who served on the school committee for eight years and the town council for another eight years, said that she won’t have time this year between trips back and forth from Florida to best serve the community.

“This is 16 years for me,” she said. “My husband would really like me back. Next winter I am going to be like a snow bird - back and forth from Florida.”

The recent harsh winter cold may have had something to do with the departure of the long-time volunteer and representative of South Kingstown.

“I’m trying to get out of the winter,” she said.
