WEST WARWICK — The West Warwick Police Department arrested a local man for allegedly abusing his infant child.
According to police, officers responded to an apartment on Ellison Street in West Warwick on Sept. 6 to assist the West Warwick Fire Department with a six-week-old child who was choking.
Upon investigating, police learned that an object was forcefully shoved down the child’s throat — allegedly by the child’s father, Ronald Bliss, 34.
The child was quickly transported to Kent County Memorial Hospital and later Hasbro Children’s Hospital, where the object was removed.
After issuing a warrant for his arrest, Bliss turned himself it to West Warwick Police yesterday, Sept. 30 and was charged with first degree child abuse.
Detective Captain Ernest Lavigne of the West Warwick Police Department said that Bliss was arraigned in third district court.
He was released on $20,000 personal recognizance. He was made subject to a no contact order. A screening was scheduled for Dec. 16.
