WEST WARWICK—For years now, the West Warwick Public Library has offered digital books and their collection “continues to grow,” said Maureen Delovio, the head of the reference department.
Libraries across Rhode Island pay Ocean State Libraries a subscription fee and everyone shares, she said. To accumulate their collection, “individual libraries will buy and add to it.”
There are a number of different options to choose from, said Delovio. Library users can checkout and download Adobe EPUB eBooks, Adobe PDF eBooks, Mobipocket eBooks, WMA Audiobooks, MP3 Audiobooks, music and videos.
“We have everything,” said Delovio. “Mysteries, children, young adult and adult books, instructional, fiction and nonfiction—anything that comes out in electronic format, we can get.”
She said that the library does not currently have all eBooks but “has a lot.”
The files are treated similar to how a library user would check out a book. You must have a library card and will have a certain amount of time to read or view it, said Delovio.
Similar to checking out a book, the user will have access to it for three weeks and then the file disappears. There are no renewals and users can place a hold on a book whenever they wish.
