WEST WARWICK — Town Finance Director Malcolm Moore believes he has done what he can for West Warwick, and he will be moving on to take on the job as Finance Director for the City of East Providence at the beginning of September.
Moore served West Warwick for 12 years. He was responsible for the town’s budget, presenting it to the Town Council and the Town Manager, who then bring it to the people at the annual town budget meeting.
Moore explained how four years ago, the town did away with the tax collector’s position but kept the tax assessor’s position, then added that job to Moore’s responsibilities.
He said when times get tough, the town streamlines as much as it can.
“I believe the town has done a good job with that,” he said, “but there’s not a lot of room left.”
Before new Town Manager Michael Stampfler started this June, Moore’s responsibilities grew a third time as he served as the interim Town Manager as well as Finance Director for nine months.
“I did really enjoy being the interim Town Manager,” he said. “It presented me with many challenges where I met with the state and resolved some issues, one of them being the lawsuit between the Town Council and the School Committee
