On February 17 twelve representatives from several local Walmart stores visited and toured Sargent Rehabilitation Center. Local Walmart Store Managers, Market Assistant and Good Works Coordinators ⊠staff who identify non-profit organizations and programs in the community that Walmart wishes to support with a monetary contributionâŠcame bearing a gift. Sargent Center was presented with a $5000 contribution to support services for children and adults with disabilities.
âWe are so pleased to be able to show our support for excellent programs that assist children, adults and families in our communities. Our Good Works Coordinators and Managers selected Sargent Center as an organization that we wanted to support with a major gift because of their work on behalf of individuals with disabilities,â states Alexis Tullli, Walmartâs Market Assistant.
âWe are thrilled to have this level of support and commitment from our friends at Walmart and we greatly appreciate that they selected Sargent Center as a non-profit partner. We were pleased and proud to have them visit so that they could see our programs firsthand and know they are supporting an organization that makes a positive impact on families,â states Marilyn F. Serra, President/CEO of Sargent Center.
During the tour, Walmart visitors watched as adolescents in the Centerâs Neuro-Rehabilitation Program participated in an on-site martial arts class. The class teaches great physical and cognitive skills for students who have sustained brain injuries. Visitors also saw the Centerâs adult physical and occupational therapy areas, group treatment rooms and education classrooms. In the Pediatric Day School, visitors toured through the Centerâs newly renovated transitional living unit which is essentially a mini apartment setting that trains adolescents in independent living skills. The tour also included a look at a sensory integration treatment session, reading and science lab sessions and a visit to some of the day school classrooms.
