North Kingstown teachers approved a three-year contract that calls for a three-percent increase in teachers’ pay in each of the three years. The contract also included a two-percent per year increase for healthcare co-pays.

The North Kingstown School Department learned that it misappropriated $245,000 that was supposed to be used for special education. Although some of the money was used for its intended purpose, the bulk of it was used to the benefit of the general school population. The Rhode Island Department of Education ordered the school department to repay $217,000.

The 318 members of North Kingstown High School’s class of 2002 were the first class to graduate from the new high school. Caitlin Brome was the class valedictorian, and Stefan Gislason was the salutatorian.

Captain Charles E. Brennan Jr. completed the FBI National Academy course at Quantico Virginia.

At a public hearing, Davisville residents expressed their displeasure to Rhode Island Housing and Mortgage Finance Corp. about a proposed Habitat for Humanity development. Residents were concerned about how the development would affect the town’s school system.

Exeter voters approved a $4.8 million budget for 1992-1993. The town budget was $1.7 million, and the school budget was $3.1million.

Former Davisville Credit Union (DCU) depositors were able to get money, previously out of their reach for 18 months, from Fleet National Bank. Fleet was the successful bidder for DCU assets. The DCU closed in January 1991 when the Rhode Island Share and Deposit Indemnity Corp. failed.
