EAST GREENWICH—The unlikely ride for the Chariho field hockey team came to an end Wednesday at East Greenwich’s Carcieri Field.
The Chargers hung tough early against No. 2 seed La Salle but ultimately couldn’t get anything going offensively against the Rams’ defense in a 2-0 defeat.
“The first 20 minutes of the game I felt like we dominated,” Chariho coach Johannah LaFountain said. “I thought our strategy was working and then I felt like they put some pressure on, made some changes and just kind of everything fell apart from there.”
Midway through the opening half La Salle finally started to gain traction against the Chargers and with 8:20 to go until halftime Allison Bernier finished off a hit from Erin Gallogly to put the Rams on top 1-0 heading into the break.
A penalty stroke from La Salle’s Molly Kelly with 19:21 left to put the game away and end Chariho’s season.
Sophomore Maddie Powers had a tremendous game in goal for the Chargers, finishing with 21 saves in the loss.
