EAST GREENWICH – An undefeated team in Division III and its winless counterpart met Saturday night at Eldredge Field and a 34-12 final score seemed a pretty appropriate result, right? Not quite: it was East Greenwich, which had dropped its first two league games, pleasing the home fans by striking division co-leader Central for three touchdowns on its first five offensive plays and cruising home from there. Kevin Mirandou did much of the early damage, scoring the three early TDs on his way to 148 rushing yards and four scores on 14 carries. For Avengers coach Bob Corr, the formula for reversing form was simple: cut out the bad third quarter that had doomed his team to its two previous defeats. EG did the job, although the task was complicated by Central’s momentum entering the second half and the loss of Avenger quarterback Max Petti to a possibly broken right forearm. “We had to play defense and stop them because we weren’t sure if we’d score any more points,” Corr said. “Because of our injuries, we needed this.” For more, read the 10/15 edition of the Pendulum
