EG girls keep on rolling, crush Oakers

EAST GREENWICH — Although their season has been virtually flawless, the East Greenwich girls’ soccer team admitted that it takes them a little while to get their legs going underneath them once the match has started.
However, you might have a hard time stating that argument with the Coventry girls’ soccer team.
Callie Russo’s goal two minutes into the match helped spark a four-goal outburst in the first half for the Avengers en route to the 5-0 victory over the Oakers on Tuesday at Eldridge Field, earning their 10th league victory in the process.
Taking advantage of a lower-tier team like Coventry was already strongly emphasized to East Greenwich if it wants to overtake South Kingstown in the I-South division. But, East Greenwich head coach David Petrucci made it clear that the young Oakers have been known to get off to good starts to games and have improved greatly since the beginning of the season, therefore starting fast was a necessity for the Avengers on Tuesday.
