This week finds Dame Fortune smiling kindly on the North Kingstown Standard-Times, and by extension, its readers.
Martha Smith, a former resident of East Greenwich, is returning to the arena of column writing in Rhode Island after several years away from the business in our area. A former feature writer and prize-winning columnist for several newspapers and magazines, Smith has 42 years of journalistic experience under her belt as well as several published books to her credit. One of the questions we frequently are asked is “What ever happened to Martha Smith?” Well, here is your answer. She became a minister for one thing. She healed from a bout with cancer, for another. Moreover, she learned a lot from all of it.
She currently serves as Chaplain for Visitation at East Greenwich’s First Evangelical Lutheran Church, tending to the spiritual needs of the sick and elderly. She lives in Warwick with her beloved mini dachshunds: Remy, Sophie and Sally.
Starting this week, Martha will write a weekly column for this paper called “NK: Tell Me Your Story,” which will focus on the people who populate our town. We are delighted to have her accumulated wisdom, life experience and skill with words on page four every week.
Welcome back to Rhode Island journalism, Martha! |
