SOUTH KINGSTOWN — It was less than a week ago when South Kingstown High freshman forward Emily McClarnon showed glimpses of the type of player she will be in the future. Against the best team in the state – La Salle – McClarnon showed an excellent first touch and the intelligence to be in the right position to score a goal in the box Apparently the future was Monday night against a Portsmouth High team that was regionally ranked at the beginning of the season. Thanks to McClarnon’s predatory instincts in the penalty box and the vision of all-state forward Amanda Graham, the Patriots simply had no answer for the fleet-footed freshman. McClarnon scored three goals in the first half and she put the game away three minutes into the second half with her fourth goal of the Division I crossover game to lift the I-South leaders to a 5-1 win over the Patriots.
