Schools are concerned about several veteran teachers retiring at once
Saturday, 14 February 2009
BY ABBY FOX

East Greenwich schools will lose several more teachers than usual this spring, if the state accepts the governor’s proposal last month to remove the cost-of-living adjustments (COLAs) from senior public employees’ pensions, if they do not retire by the end of this school year.
Meadowbrook Farms Elementary may experience two teachers retiring. Eldredge School may lose three. Hanaford School could lose two. Frenchtown School may say goodbye to four. The high school could lose five or six, while Cole Junior High may see four teachers leave. These estimates were given last week by the schools themselves.
