Carrie Simonetti, a former first grade teacher at Frenchtown, got to show people another side of herself – as a self-published author – at the Village Lower School over the weekend, when she read aloud her first book, “Kringle the Christmas Caterpillar,” published in December.
A life-long fan of children’s literature, who loves reading to her two boys, Simonetti said, “It’s been a dream of mine to publish my own book.” After her son, Matthew, inspired her several years ago when he found a caterpillar on the rug, Simonetti wrote the story and put it in a drawer. Then when the educational supply company she works for in Warwick took an interest, she found in one place both a publisher and an illustrator, Rick Bounds. Proceeds from sales of the $10 book go entirely to the MWEA fund, Simonetti says, which is dedicated to building classroom libraries in Kenya. The book’s web site, where there’s information about buying the book and the fund, is http://kringlecatepillar.com. |
