Skippers find silver lining on cloudy night

WESTERLY - North Kingstown's David D'Errico ran for 179 yards and two
touchdowns, leading the Skippers past Westerly, 18-6, in the tradition
non-league season opener Friday night.
Persistent downpours turned the Westerly High School field into slop and
forced North Kingstown out of its finesse offense.
Instead, D'Errico ran left, right and up the gut - 30 times total,
including eight times in a nine-play drive for the game's first score in
the second quarter.

With NK's offensive line overpowering Westerly, its defensive line did the
same. The Skippers didn't give up a first down until the third quarter and
didn't give up a score until the game was well in hand.
D'Errico scored in the second and third quarter on one-yard plunges and
threw for another touchdown, connecting with senior Chris Cooper midway
through the fouth.

Standard-Times.
