Veteran’s Memorial Park Commission re-established

June 25, 2014

SOUTH KINGSTOWN - The town council officially re-established the Saugatucket Park Veteran’s Memorial Park Commission on Monday night and tasked the group with finding additional names for inscription on the Saugatucket Park memorial wall.
Stephen Stewart, a member of the commission in the past, was the catalyst for the town council discussion and, ultimately, the decision to re-establish the group.
“Back when Tony Guriello was the president of the town council, I came to him and said ‘Tony, what are we going to do about the monument? It’s a disgrace, we have to do something about it,’’ said Stewart. “He asked me if I would like to serve on a commission and I said ‘yes I would.’ Now, as you can see, we have a ceremony down there twice a year. That is the accumulation of our work.”
