URI hosts talk on economic impacts of climate change

Dr. Robert Johnston of Clark University says that economists do not utilize environmental research well enough when studying topics such as property values.

KINGSTON — In his lecture, “Economic Tradeoffs in New England Coastal Management,” Dr. Robert Johnston of Clark University detailed the potential costs and benefits of a range of preservation choices for ocean communities. He gave the talk Tuesday afternoon at the University Club at the University of Rhode Island.

Johnston said that the economics of managing beaches and coastal areas was far more complex than simply looking at housing losses due to flooding and storms or the “damage and replacement costs.”
