URI’s Brownell wins Dream Maker Award

March 5, 2014

Winnie Brownell, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at URI, was honored with the Dream Maker Award by the Rhode Island Film and TV Office on Sunday for her work encouraging and promoting filmmaking on and off-campus.

KINGSTON – As has happened to many a dreamer before her, Winifred Brownell was mesmerized at a young age by the moving pictures that taught her, scared her, told her a story or, especially, that kept her on the edge of her seat.

Now the dean of The College of Arts and Sciences at URI, Winnie Brownell has led a life centered on and surrounded by film. Her efforts in advocacy of, support for and education encapsulating independent and commercial film projects and students took her to the red carpet this past Sunday to receive the Dream Maker Award, presented by the Rhode Island Film and TV Office at the Veterans Memorial Auditorium.
