Union passes no-confidence vote on Gardiner

August 7, 2014

NORTH KINGSTOWN-In the ongoing tug-of-war between the Town of North Kingstown and its firefighters, the fire union announced on Monday its passing a vote of no-confidence against Chief Fenwick Gardiner, Jr. The union, which passed the vote 48-2, cites a number of safety concerns over which Gardiner has allegedly presided, and called the action ‘the result of a thorough, deliberative and investigative process beginning in Dec. 2013.’
“Serious safety issues in the North Kingstown Fire Department have been allowed to exist for far too long,” said Ray Furtado, president of the North Kingstown Firefighters Association (NKFFA), Local 1651, said on Monday. “There were a number of requests for meetings with the chief by both the executive board of the local, as well as the health and safety committees, and no action had been taken related to those requests.”
