NARRAGANSETT–The Towers Committee met on Feb. 15 to discuss their events schedule, their budget, and new plans for the historic landmark.
The building is undergoing restoration and the Town Council has already approved the final proposal for $177, 590 to Abcore. This phase will include replacement of a stairway, landings, elevator, hallway, and other projects around the property. The committee also hopes to refurbish display cases, install shelving, and install furniture in the Towers office.
The fiscal year 2011 capital budget had $50,000 General Fund appropriation for the Towers Restoration with additional funds from the Towers budget and the Friends of the Towers. In the remainder of the winter, the committee hopes to "sand lock," power wash, and seal the Towers courtyard. The fountain has already been winterized by Hendricks Pools and plans are in the works for addition landscaping along the fence and shed in addition to completing repairs to the park lawn.
Otis Wyatt, Dave Ousterhout, and Dave O'Brien will be restoring and improving the entrance way to the Towers, whose historic pictures need to be redone. The possibility of taking on an intern to help with this was discussed. And other committee members will work to frame and hang historic pictures, finalize a Towers video, improve the website, and complete the year's summer events program.
The upcoming events include Love is in the Air on Feb. 11 at 7:30 p.m. Romeo and Juliet on Feb. 18 at 7 p.m., a Restaurant Week Kick off on March 24, Muscia Dolce on April 10, Bohemian Gypsy Quartet on April 17 at 2 p.m., an Easter Morning Sunrise Service on April 24 at 6;15 a.m., and a Taste of the Towers on May 13, at 7 p.m.
