TODAY ONLY: open call auditions for "Road Show" through 4 p.m.

December 14, 2012

The Courthouse Center for the Arts, recently renamed Courthouse CenterStage, is hosting auditions for the new AMC reality show "Road Show" today, Friday, Dec. 14, through 4 p.m.

Correction: The Narragansett Times originally reported that auditions for the "Road Show" would be held through Dec. 17. Auditions will be held today only, Dec. 14, through 4 p.m. The Times regrets the error.

SOUTH KINGSTOWN – The Courthouse Center for the Arts has changed its name to Courthouse CenterStage.

“The whole idea was to try to give the Courthouse an identity and a branding,” Joseph Orlando, president of the Courthouse’s board of directors, said by phone Thursday. “The Courthouse Center for the Arts is kind of a general name and it seemed like many people didn’t know exactly what it is that we do there.”

The change was made about two months ago following a majority vote by the board of directors, though Orlando said the name change was the idea of Artistic Director Richard Ericson.

“We picked the name because we wanted to honor the old name, “Courthouse Center,” Ericson said. “Courthouse CenterStage says what we do primarily, which is productions but we will continue to do visual arts shows and music but we wanted people to know our primary push is theater.”

Ericson noted that the Courthouse CenterStage’s name also has a subtitle, “South County’s Professional Theater and Arts Center,” which describes its full purpose.

Despite the new name, Orlando said the Courthouse will still provide a theater and visual arts venue, as it has done in the past. It will also expand its educational programs.

The change comes as the Courthouse prepares to celebrate its 25th anniversary in 2013. The venue also launched a new website, www.courthousecenterstage.org, and plans to announce its 2013 season in January.

Prior to the new season, auditions will be held at Courthouse CenterStage for the new AMC reality show, “Road Show.”

Auditions will take place Dec. 14 from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The production team, Story Vision Entertainment, will come to the Courthouse, located at 3481 Kingstown Road, in search of ordinary people living in small towns who have a unique talent.

The winner of each talent show will receive a $10,000 cash prize.

Those interested in auditioning should come to the open call prepared with two acts, no longer than 90 seconds each, as well as the proper documentation, which must be turned in at the audition.

Other open call audition cities include Holland, Mich., and Walla Walla, Wash.

The show is scheduled to air in late spring on AMC.

Documentation, including official program rules, is available at www.storyvisionentertainment.com/roadshow.
